About MIP

(Pronounced “em - eye - pea”)

MIP is where companies come to grow

McMaster Innovation Park (MIP) is Canada’s premier research and innovation park supporting startups, business, research and offering collaborative space to transform ideas from vision to commercial reality. Our mission is to help companies grow.

MIP acts as a bridge between academia and industry. Supporting researchers with commercial aspirations and enabling students and entrepreneurs to develop their ideas in our incubator and accelerator programs, while also connecting industry with the technical prowess of McMaster University and other academic institutions. MIP is an integral part of Hamilton’s innovation ecosystem where anyone can find a multiplicity of resources to help begin your journey.

Information & Communications Technology

Aligned with the research priorities of McMaster University, MIP primarily works with companies in our main sectors of focus: Life Sciences, Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, and Information Communication Technology.

What do all of the companies growing at MIP have in common? Innovation, of course! Whether they are innovators themselves or their business supports those in innovation, at MIP “innovation” is everyone’s middle name (even ours!).

Does your company fall outside of these categories? No problem!

MIP has created a diverse ecosystem that drives innovation and venture success. Our network extends beyond our main campus. We can help point you in the right direction whether that is inside or outside of the park.

the innovation ecosystem

An innovation ecosystem is a group of a number of participants and resources necessary to drive innovation. These participants and resources include entrepreneurs, startups, scale-ups, multi-nationals, students, government agencies, research parks, and so much more!

MIP is at the very centre of innovation in Canada. Located at the tip of Lake Ontario, Hamilton is centrally located about 60-90 mins from Waterloo, Toronto, and Buffalo, NY. What does this mean for businesses? MIP has direct access to 3 of the most innovative cities in North America and all of the talent, resources, and diversity they hold.

The Beatles said it best! We all get by with a little help from our friends. Our network of partners helps us ensure that no matter what you need to take your business to the next level, we can find it (wherever in the world that may be).

As the name suggests, McMaster University is MIPs one and only shareholder. Although we are owned by the university, we operate as a separate, for-profit business. We help act as a bridge between academia and industry. This allows researchers to pursue the commercial potential of their work, or work directly with industry to solve real problems.
