McMaster Innovation Park Raises $15K for Underrepresented Youth in STEM

September 16, 2022 | Hamilton, Ontario | At the culmination of the McMaster Innovation Park ("MIP") 2022 golf tournament powered by title sponsor Multiplex, today MIP announced it has raised $15,000 to support underrepresented youth in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), through the youth-based program, Mathstronauts.

Mathstronauts provides innovative programs for young people to explore technology and gain 21st century skills for success. The objective of the Mathstronauts STEM-based program is to design, develop and deliver inclusive and equitable quality STEM education, focused on middle & high school students (grades 5 - 12) in underrepresented communities.

The tournament teed off at the Chedoke Beddoe Golf Course in Hamilton and was visibly supported by the innovators who represent the life sciences ecosystem, partners and friends of MIP, who clubbed up to support a worthy cause.

“Our activities at MIP take place within the context of a highly diverse community, and when we think of how we prepare for the future, we know that this must also involve a diverse group of young people,” said Ty Shattuck, Chief Executive Officer, MIP. "I am very excited that through the generosity of everyone involved, we were able to achieve this fundraising goal in support of STEM, and that in doing so we helping to expose more students to this burgeoning field."

President and Managing Director of Multiplex Construction Canada, Terry Olynyk commented, “We are delighted that we could participate in this year’s tournament. The guiding purpose of Multiplex is to ‘Construct a Better Future’, and what better way to do so than by investing in the next generation of innovators who will be defining the solutions of the future.”

The annual event is organized by MIP’s hard working team lead by the Ecosystem Partnerships Manager, Jonathan Hunt, who expressed sincerest gratitude to the team and the generous sponsors who made the event possible. This year’s golf tournament was generously supported by: CBRE, Universal Cleaners, Walters Group, CCXIT, AON, TownePlace Suites by Marriott in Hamilton, MaRS Discovery District, the President’s office at McMaster University and LoAllay.
