Dr. John Rudolph
Dr. John Rudolph is the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Eli Lilly Canada, one of Canada's leading pharmaceutical companies. In this role, he is responsible for the company's legal matters in Canada and is a member of the company's Senior Strategy and Policy Team.
Prior to joining Eli Lilly Canada in 2008, John was Assistant General Counsel at Pfizer Inc. in Groton/New London Connecticut, USA, where he was responsible for a variety of legal matters and was a member of the Senior management team for one of the company's largest Research and Development sites in the world. Prior to that, John moved from the partnership at Bereskin and Parr where he practiced patent law in the field of Biotechnology to take up the position of Vice President, Legal Affairs, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Chief Privacy Officer at Pfizer Canada Inc. While at Pfizer Canada, John was a member of the Senior Leadership team of the company.
John has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology and Zoology and a Master of Science degree in Physiology, both from the University of Toronto. In 1989 he received a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from McMaster University. John subsequently obtained his LL.B. from the University of Ottawa graduating cum Laude. John is called to the Ontario Bar and is a registered Canadian and U.S. patent agent.
John has authored or co-authored many scientific and legal publications, and has lectured on a range of legal and scientific topics, as well as appearing on CHCH television speaking about intellectual property matters. He is a member of a number of professional organizations, and in 2005 he was admitted to the Honour Society of the University of Ottawa law school primarily for his roles in business and as an advocate for strong intellectual property rights in Canada.
